Welcome to a source of information on the USA for visitors from the UK The information is based on the experience of visits, on business and pleasure, over the past 30 years. This is also a place to find the unusual, and generally unknown (to the British) places to visit, places to stay, and local attractions. You may also book accommodation, flights, car hire, attractions, and events from this site. If you are looking for more information to read at your leisure, then we suggest you take a look at the selection offered by Amazon.co.uk in their Travel & Holiday section. Many people in the UK, especially those with families, think of Florida and Orlando. During the summer holidays there are probably more British people in Orlando than there are American! There are plenty of cheap packages to Orlando, and this is obviously one of the main attractions, together with the world-famous theme parks - but, it can get very crowded. The hustle and bustle starts at the two main airports serving this area (Orlando, and Sanford) which can also get very crowded - then you have to stand in long queues (or "lines" in American) to get your hire car ("rental car" in American). Already, you will have spotted something different - the American language. Without a little prior knowledge, it could cause some embarrassment - take a look at our Speak American section. There ARE other places to go in Florida, AND other theme parks. Of course, nothing can match the thrill of Disney, but there are less-crowded, and less-expensive alternatives. Florida has several other parks which are of interest to families - from the small family-run businesses to larger operations. Also, you do not have to enter through the busy Orlando or Sanford airports. How about Tampa (for the west coast of Florida and its beaches), or Miami (for the east coast beaches and the Keys)? On this site, we also take a look at other destinations that you may like to consider, together with some relatively unknown parts of Florida. If you are in a hurry, try the search facility below:
